The length of the course is 3 years and is split into 6 semesters as is most diploma course in vocational education in India. That is why the given duration provides students with the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience to become specialists in healthcare as D.Voc medical imaging technology.
1st Year (Semester 1 & 2): The first year contains Gross and systematic anatomy and physiology, radiographic techniques and the fundamentals of medical imaging. To do this, students are informed of the various types of imageing modalities such as x-ray, magnetic resonsance imaging and ultrasound among others. Theoretical concepts are followed by practicals in the laboratory where the students get aware of the imaging equipment and different aspects of safety used in medical imaging.
2nd Year (Semester 3 & 4): In the second year further imaging techniques including CT scans and MRI are explored. Patients receive more information on what to expect from imaging procedures and how students can help them through the imaging process while maintaining patient safety, patient dignity and comfort. Students also get more practical knowledge about technology that is involved in the imaging devices as well as how best to manage them and even read simple imaging reports.
3rd Year (Semester 5 & 6): The final year involves, specialized modules in advanced radiography, nuclear medicine imaging with clinical attachments added to the course. To correlate the course with students’ real-life experience, they dedicate considerable time to being in clinical practicum to work supervised to run imaging equipment in the clinical settings alongside doctors and other health care professionals. This year, the students are also introduced to ethical legal requirements in medical imaging encompassing patient’s rights, privacy, and other legal measures in healthcare.
