Is B.Ed valid for teaching abroad?

A Bachelor of Education, B.Ed. is valid to teach abroad but will be accepted depending on the country, school system, and teaching requirements. In many countries, B.Ed. is recognized as a teaching qualification especially in primary and secondary education. However, some of the countries will require additional certificates such as a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Some countries require a teaching license or registration with an education board, such as Canada, the UK, and the USA, while others, such as the UAE or Singapore, mostly require teaching experience along with the degree.

It can be very valuable for a candidate to find the specific requirements needed in their chosen country, like work permits, language proficiency tests, and accreditations. Often, international schools prefer experienced candidates with expertise in a particular subject and training or experience in a curriculum like IB (International Baccalaureate) or Cambridge. Although having a B.Ed. provides good foundational experience, further qualifications and experience as well as networking with teaching organizations worldwide might increase one's chances of acquiring a teaching post abroad.
