The eligibility criteria to enroll in a course of an ITI for Diesel Mechanic are educational and age requirements. Candidates must be at least class 10, or its equivalent, passed by a recognized board. This means that students already have a good understanding of their basic subjects: mathematics and science, which forms the basis for technical training. In addition, the age barrier is set to 14 years and not restricted by an upper age bar; thus, learners of different age groups are facilitated.
In addition to the basic requirements above, some institutes set an entrance examination or interview in order to screen the suitability of the candidates. Physical fitness and interest in mechanical work will also be important since the training will involve plenty of working on heavy machinery. The ITI Diesel Mechanic program is conducted with the aim of enabling graduates to perform maintenance and repair jobs, troubleshooting diesel engines, and hence suitable for the automotive and transportation industry.
