Aerospace Engineering is a broad and systemic area of study that needs proficiency in formulating, measuring, and evaluating flying and space traveling mechanisms.
1. Technical Skills Mathematics and Physics: A good grasp of Calculus, Differential equations etc and physics such as mechanics, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics is helpful in analyzing flight dynamic, aircrafts’ aerodynamics and its propulsion system.
Engineering Design: CAD competence such as CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD is essential in order to design feasible models for aircraft and space crafts.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD): Experience in either ANSYS Fluent or COMSOL or similar CFD software for modeling air flows and all type of fluid dynamics mechanisms.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Versatility to run FEA software packages such as ANSYS, Abaqus to determine structure and materials’ performance or stress.
Control Systems: Understanding of flight control systems and stability to create awareness on how to design methods and solutions to operate, control and stabilize aircraft and space craft.
2. The following areas are problem-solving and critical thinking skills: Problems need to be solved often bypass sophisticated, and address real-life concerns with ingenuity and logic known to Aerospace engineers. Having the means to look at problems from different perspectives, solve them and locate an optimized design is crucial.
3. Attention to Detail There are normally great emphasis placed in aerospace industry and engineers because even trivial designs can greatly affect the functionality, safety and durability of aerons and space vehicles.
4. Project Management Since aerospace engineers are engaged in large projects and are most probable working in a team, then proper management of resources, time and money must be in place. The knowledge of Aerospace projects life cycle, that begins from the design of the project, going through testing and production, is useful for the implementation of the project within the required time and at the right cost.
