Electrical Engineering involves a wide range of topics that are basically basic to electricity and electronics and the principles behind the technologies involved. The foundation topics are Circuit Theory, which teaches students about electrical circuits and network analysis, and Electrical Machines, in which they learn about transformers, motors, and generators. The third one is Power Systems, where students study generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical power. Control Systems is primarily about the regulation of electrical systems and devices. Electronics and Digital Systems cover such topics as semiconductors, logic circuits, and microprocessors.
The more advanced specializations in the field of electrical engineering include such subjects as Signal Processing, with regard to analyzing and manipulating signals, and Electromagnetic Fields, describing the behavior of electric and magnetic fields in any media. Students also explore a variety of issues, such as communication systems through analog and digital communication techniques along with principles concerning renewable energy from solar, wind, and hydroelectric power systems. Curriculums might also include additional electives specialized in fields related to embedded systems, robotics, and artificial intelligence, due to the ever-shifting technological paradigms defining the discipline.
