On Tuesday (29 June 2021), the West Bengal cabinet approved the 'Student Credit Card Scheme'. Trinamool Congress had promised this in its election manifesto. In this context, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, 'The cabinet has given its approval to the student credit card scheme. Any person who has spent 10 years in West Bengal can take advantage of this. The loan will be available for undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies in India or abroad. This scheme is also applicable for the national competitive exams such as IIT, IIM, PCS, ICS, IPS, and many more. Its most important thing is that after getting a job, a student will be given 15 years to repay the loan amount at a very simple interest rate.
Eligibility Criteria For the WB Students Credit Card Scheme
- A student can avail soft loans of up to 10 lakh rupees for higher studies with the help of a credit card.
- The student credit card scheme is only given to those students who have almost 10 years in West Bengal.
- This scheme is applicable or given to students above class 10th
- After getting the job, the students will be given 15 years to repay the loan amount.
- The benefit of this scheme is given only for studies. Students can use this loan amount for the institution and non- institution expenses.
- Persons under the age of 40 are eligible for this scheme.
- Students will repay the loan amount at a nominal interest rate of 4%.
- It will also benefit the students studying in various coaching institutes, preparing to appear in the national level competitive exams, including IIT, IIM, NLU, IAS, IPS, and WBPS.
